VPS and hosting panels

Apply the same installation steps inside a service or hosting container.

VPS or dedicated server

  1. Create a service account and a server directory it can write to.
  2. Install Java 21, upload the official JAR, and prepare a start script.
  3. Set the service working directory to the server folder. Keep access to its console and a clean stop operation.
  4. Allow the allocated game port through both OS and provider firewalls. Normal Java Edition connections use TCP.
  5. Check disk space, memory limits, and outbound HTTPS for Paperclip and required services.
  6. Test restart and clean shutdown before enabling automatic startup.

Never run two processes against the same world directory. Fix file ownership rather than using root/administrator as a general workaround.

Pterodactyl or a similar panel

Menu names vary by provider:

  1. Stop the server and wait until it is offline.
  2. Select Java 21 and note the allocated memory and port.
  3. Upload the Paperclip JAR. Match its filename in the startup command or JAR variable.
  4. Keep heap below the container limit; host-wide memory readings are not your allocation.
  5. Start and complete license/EULA steps when requested.
  6. Connect using the panel’s assigned address and port.

No dedicated NusaSpigot egg/template is verified in this repository. Use the provider’s supported custom-JAR mechanism. Do not open the retired local setup web port; web management uses customer cloud access.

Check the result

Confirm the runtime version, successful readiness, expected generated files, a client connection, and clean saving on stop. If the container exceeds memory, adjust heap or allocation based on measurements. See performance troubleshooting.
